slick brothaHave you picked up the latest issue of ESSENCE magazine? If you have not…PLEASE do! Spend that $3.99 and get it. When you pick it up go to pg. 160 and yes…there it is… the $64,000 question: What makes A BLACK MAN CHEAT? Not just any man but, a BLACK MAN! The article is written by Jeanine Amber and the content is based off of data collected from an estimated 25,000 people surveyed. This article is probably one of the most realistic descriptions of a black mans psyche that I've read. Whether happily married or single and searching, will he be faithful? Jeannine asks.

She covers both ends of the spectrum and everything in the middle from the married man who married knowing he was going to cheat on his wife,to the pastor, the other woman, the single father all the way to the faithful husband. I won’t spoil it for you, however, I would like to point out some staggering facts that are mentioned in the article in addition to some facts I researched as well:
Did You Know?
  • 53% of men say they “only sometimes” or “never” use protection when they cheat on their partner
  • 43% of men and 37% of women said they would break up immediately if they found out their partner was cheating
  • Women are twice as likely as men to stay with their partner for more than a year after finding out he’s cheated
  • HIV/AIDS is now the leading cause of death for Black women 25-44 years of age and has been for the past 13 years
  • Almost 70% of all newly diagnosed HIV-positive women in the United States are Black women
  • 48% of new of new infections among black men were those among 13-29 yrs of age
  • Most violent crimes seen on the news involving a black man and woman is most likely because someone cheated
I find this information to be mind blowing and quite frankly, SCARY! When you process information like this from a “community” perspective you have to be concerned about the well being of our kids…our entire race as a whole. How can we change it? How can we make adults see the risks that are being taking or the innocent lives are ignorantly being put in jeopardy due to reckless behavior? Let’s be real, not every man has a wife and not every black man is cheating. However, the ones that do have wives or committed girlfriends are totally at risk several times over because most likely he is sleeping with more than one woman and roughly more than 50% are not even wearing latex!
