Can someone please explain to me what it means when SHE says “He’s just a friend?!” What does that mean?? He’s just a friend but I can’t ever meet him? Does it mean he’s “just a friend” NOW because what ya’ll had didn’t work out? Is he just a friend because you want to be more than that to him but he’s not feeling you like that? Or is he “just a friend” when it comes to me but, everybody else knows what’s up?

You see, this is a phenomenon that in all my years of dating I have never been able to figure out or get a straight answer from any of the women I know. I mean he’s “just a friend” but you’re always on the phone with him? He’s “just a friend” but you have to leave the room every time you talk to him. He’s “JUST a friend” but he’s mad at you when a guy comes to pick you up?! Do girlfriend- to- girlfriend relationships have these kinds of problems? I want to know.

One of my college buddies was recently telling me the other day that his brother (31 years old) has been seeing this young lady and he got into a confrontation with the girls “FRIEND” whom of course is a man. Are male friends this protective over their female friends like this? If he’s “just a friend” then shouldn’t he be ok with her dating?

Was he JUST a friend back in the day of Shakespeare? I mean was Juliet like “stop tripping Romeo, Marius is just a friend?”

I’m sure by now you can sense my intrigue with this entire madness but I just have to get a grip on it. I mean I still hear single women, involved women and sometimes ummm…married women say “Oh he’s just a friend.”

However, I do want to recognize that there are some cases when the guy REALLY is just a friend. In those cases, the guy will have met your male companion and in some capacity will have naturally been integrated into the relationship as “real” friend…nothing more.
I pose this question to all of those who consider themselves ‘seasoned’; What does it mean when a woman says “He’s just a friend”?
